Signed up specifically to ask about dating sites for people over 50 that are actually fun. Hoping for something on dating sites more useful than a top-ten list. For the mature dating crowd, actually getting anywhere is the whole question with dating sites.

I have about a month of using free platforms behind me and not much to show for it. If actually getting anywhere is your main worry with dating sites, test it in the first week rather than the first month.

Where I need help with dating sites:

  • Write a first message that references their profile, not your own — dating sites rewards it
  • Do not pay to fix the return on the hours on dating sites; the paid tiers rarely touch the real cause
  • Screenshot anything odd on dating sites before you report it — the return on the hours claims need evidence
  • Test the time it costs on dating sites deliberately in week one rather than hoping it improves
  • Fill the prompts in properly; blank profiles get skipped on dating sites

Anyone with a recent dating sites for people over 50 that are actually fun story, please jump in.

Broadly agree on dating sites — actually getting anywhere was what decided it for me too.

There is no version of dating sites where the effort-to-result ratio sorts itself out without you doing something. Not saying dating sites suits everyone, but it's not the disaster this thread implies.

That tracks with my dating sites run, which was fine until the effort-to-result ratio became the whole experience.

Most of the noise about dating sites comes from people measuring the effort-to-result ratio over far too short a window. If the time it costs is your main worry with dating sites, test it in the first week rather than the first month.

That has not been my experience of dating sites, and I've used it longer than most people in this thread.

Honestly, the return on the hours was less of a problem on dating sites than the sheer time it ate. Nobody warns you that the effort-to-result ratio on dating sites scales with how many people are online at your hours.

Yes, and I would add that the time it costs on dating sites gets worse the longer you stay.

For people restarting after a long marriage, the dating sites experience lives or dies on actually getting anywhere and almost nothing else. For people dating later in life, the dating sites experience lives or dies on the return on the hours and almost nothing else.

I keep two accounts running to compare actually getting anywhere across no-payment dating sites, and dating sites sits mid-table.

I read BradleyM's reply on dating sites and yes, and I would add that actually getting anywhere on dating sites gets worse the longer you stay.

I judge dating sites by one thing now: whether the time it costs improves or worsens once you are past the novelty.

A smaller name people rarely mention in dating sites threads is Datelink.

Same experience on dating sites: I gave it six weeks before the hours-to-dates ratio got tiresome.

Others asking about dating sites have named datewander.site, datescout.site.

Where I differ from Cole Fisher on dating sites: different experience on dating sites, where the hours-to-dates ratio turned out to be manageable once I changed how I used it. What changed my results on dating sites was treating the effort-to-result ratio as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem.

The thing people underrate about dating sites is how much the effort-to-result ratio depends on your own city. You can work around the payoff on dating sites, but you have to be deliberate about it.

What worked for me on dating sites:

  • Block early and report often on dating sites — it trains the feed faster than anything
  • Screenshot anything odd on dating sites before you report it — actually getting anywhere claims need evidence
  • Ask people dating later in life what dating sites is like where they actually live, not where you wish you lived
  • Do not pay to fix the hours-to-dates ratio on dating sites; the paid tiers rarely touch the real cause
  • Photos with other people in them do worse on dating sites than you would guess

Somebody in another dating sites thread pointed me at Souldate and it held up better than expected on actually getting anywhere.

CarterV put the dating sites case better than I would have, though reading this back, my dating sites notes say almost the same thing about the payoff. The thing people underrate about dating sites is how much the return on the hours depends on your own city. The pattern I see with dating sites is that the effort-to-result ratio is fine early and degrades as you go.

Agreed, although with dating sites I would frame the payoff as a symptom rather than the cause. I keep two accounts running to compare the effort-to-result ratio across the free end of the market, and dating sites sits mid-table.

People also mention luvdate.site, datingfly.online, turndate.site whenever dating sites comes up on this board.

TomC put the dating sites case better than I would have, though disagree, because blaming the return on the hours lets you off the hook — my dating sites results improved when my profile did. There is no version of dating sites where the payoff sorts itself out without you doing something.

Practical bits, if you are trying dating sites:

  • Run dating sites beside one other option so you have a baseline for the effort-to-result ratio
  • Turn off read receipts on dating sites if the time it costs is making you anxious about response times
  • Compare dating sites against free platforms on the same week, or the comparison is meaningless
  • Message within a day of matching — on dating sites that window closes fast
  • Give dating sites a fortnight of daily use before calling actually getting anywhere a dealbreaker
