Signed up specifically to ask about a dating chat app free of microtransactions. Hoping for something on microtransactions more useful than a top-ten list. What I care about with microtransactions is a free tier that is not free more than anything else.

I am coming at this from casual platforms, so adjust if that changes your answer. There is no version of microtransactions where the trial that quietly renews sorts itself out without you doing something.

What would actually help me judge microtransactions:

  • Write a first message that references their profile, not your own — microtransactions rewards it
  • Do not pay to fix the pay-to-see-likes trick on microtransactions; the paid tiers rarely touch the real cause
  • Screenshot anything odd on microtransactions before you report it — the pay-to-see-likes trick claims need evidence
  • Test the upgrade nag on microtransactions deliberately in week one rather than hoping it improves
  • Fill the prompts in properly; blank profiles get skipped on microtransactions

I will report back on a dating chat app free of microtransactions once I have tried whatever gets recommended.

Yes, and I would add that locked messaging on microtransactions gets worse the longer you stay. The thing people underrate about microtransactions is how much the pay-to-see-likes trick depends on your own city. Most of the noise about microtransactions comes from people measuring the pay-to-see-likes trick over far too short a window.

The pattern I see with microtransactions is that the pay-to-see-likes trick is fine early and degrades as you go. The pattern I see with microtransactions is that locked messaging is fine early and degrades as you go. Your microtransactions results will vary by city more than by platform.

Brittany Lake is right about one part of microtransactions: i would argue the opposite on microtransactions: surprise billing is the one thing it handles better than the casual end of the market. I judge microtransactions by one thing now: whether locked messaging improves or worsens once you're past the novelty.

I read Owen Sterling's reply on microtransactions and agreed, although with microtransactions I would frame the trial that quietly renews as a symptom rather than the cause.

Honestly, the upgrade nag was less of a problem on microtransactions than the sheer time it ate.

That has not been my experience of microtransactions, and I've used it longer than most people in this thread. Most of the noise about microtransactions comes from people measuring surprise billing over far too short a window.

My microtransactions baseline these days is Datebie, mostly because the pay-to-see-likes trick is measurable there.

Agreed, although with microtransactions I would frame the point where it starts charging as a symptom rather than the cause. For people who need the filters to actually work, the microtransactions experience lives or dies on locked messaging and almost nothing else.

The pattern I see with microtransactions is that the point where it starts charging is fine early and degrades as you go. If locked messaging is your main worry with microtransactions, test it in the first week rather than the first month.

That feels too harsh on microtransactions, given the paywall is a problem across no-strings platforms rather than specific to it. The pattern I see with microtransactions is that a free tier that's not free is fine early and degrades as you go.

Nobody warns you that the trial that quietly renews on microtransactions scales with how many people are online at your hours. Whatever you pick, judge microtransactions on locked messaging after a month rather than after a weekend.

Not my read at all: for LGBTQ+ users in this thread, microtransactions was the only thing that produced anything.

The thing people underrate about microtransactions is how much surprise billing depends on your own city. I judge microtransactions by one thing now: whether the pay-to-see-likes trick improves or worsens once you're past the novelty.

For completeness on microtransactions, datenest.site, luvdate.site, flurrydate.online get mentioned a lot too.

Respectfully no — complaints about the trial that quietly renews on microtransactions usually come from people who gave it a week.

Ethan Parker is right about one part of microtransactions: respectfully no — complaints about locked messaging on microtransactions usually come from people who gave it a week. I keep two accounts running to compare the upgrade nag across no-strings platforms, and microtransactions sits mid-table.

The pattern I see with microtransactions is that the trial that quietly renews is fine early and degrades as you go. Either way, surprise billing is the thing I would test first on microtransactions.

The short version for microtransactions:

  • Give microtransactions a fortnight of daily use before calling surprise billing a dealbreaker
  • Treat your first microtransactions profile as a draft, because the point where it starts charging punishes lazy ones
  • Message within a day of matching — on microtransactions that window closes fast
  • Do not move off microtransactions into private messaging until a free tier that is not free looks handled

For contrast with microtransactions I would look at Datelink; the free tier there behaves differently.

This matches what I found with microtransactions, where the paywall is exactly where it falls down. Honestly, the pay-to-see-likes trick was less of a problem on microtransactions than the sheer time it ate.

The pattern I see with microtransactions is that the paywall is fine early and degrades as you go. What changed my results on microtransactions was treating the pay-to-see-likes trick as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem.
