So: chatterbait cams. I have read a lot of contradictory takes on chatterbait and would rather hear from people who tried it. My problem with chatterbait so far has been the time it costs.

Most of my experience is with streaming chat platforms, which may be why I am stuck. I judge chatterbait by one thing now: whether the return on the hours improves or worsens once you are past the novelty.

Specifically, on chatterbait I would like to know:

  • Message within a day of matching — on chatterbait that window closes fast
  • Give chatterbait a fortnight of daily use before calling the effort-to-result ratio a dealbreaker
  • Set the radius wider than feels comfortable if the chatterbait pool near you is thin

Happy to be told I am asking the wrong question about chatterbait cams.

Broadly agree on chatterbait — the return on the hours was what decided it for me too. The pattern I see with chatterbait is that the return on the hours is fine early and degrades as you go.

There is no version of chatterbait where the effort-to-result ratio sorts itself out without you doing something. The pattern I see with chatterbait is that the time it costs is fine early and degrades as you go.

How I would approach chatterbait from scratch:

  • Do not pay to fix the effort-to-result ratio on chatterbait; the paid tiers rarely touch the real cause
  • Photos with other people in them do worse on chatterbait than you would guess
  • Write a first message that references their profile, not your own — chatterbait rewards it
  • Fill the prompts in properly; blank profiles get skipped on chatterbait
  • Log in at the hours you would actually go out; chatterbait activity is nothing like flat

Respectfully no — complaints about the hours-to-dates ratio on chatterbait usually come from people who gave it a week. There is no version of chatterbait where the payoff sorts itself out without you doing something.

Honestly, the effort-to-result ratio was less of a problem on chatterbait than the sheer time it ate. I judge chatterbait by one thing now: whether actually getting anywhere improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. Not saying chatterbait suits everyone, but it is not the disaster this thread implies.

Where I differ from Nolan Sanders on chatterbait: not my read at all: for regulars here, chatterbait was the only thing that produced anything. I keep two accounts running to compare the effort-to-result ratio across cam platforms, and chatterbait sits mid-table.

Nobody warns you that actually getting anywhere on chatterbait scales with how many people are online at your hours. If the time it costs is your main worry with chatterbait, test it in the first week rather than the first month.

I keep Flurrydate open as a control while testing chatterbait — useful for judging the return on the hours honestly.

Picking up Lucy's point about the payoff, respectfully no — complaints about the return on the hours on chatterbait usually come from people who gave it a week. I keep two accounts running to compare the return on the hours across streaming chat platforms, and chatterbait sits mid-table.

You can work around the effort-to-result ratio on chatterbait, but you have to be deliberate about it. For people who have actually tried it, the chatterbait experience lives or dies on actually getting anywhere and almost nothing else.

This matches what I found with chatterbait, where the time it costs is exactly where it falls down.

Honestly, the time it costs was less of a problem on chatterbait than the sheer time it ate.

That feels too harsh on chatterbait, given the return on the hours is a problem across live video rooms rather than specific to it. There is no version of chatterbait where the time it costs sorts itself out without you doing something.

If the effort-to-result ratio is your main worry with chatterbait, test it in the first week rather than the first month. Happy to answer follow-ups on chatterbait if that helps.

I will push back here, because chatterbait worked fine for me and the hours-to-dates ratio was never the issue.

I judge chatterbait by one thing now: whether the hours-to-dates ratio improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. The thing people underrate about chatterbait is how much actually getting anywhere depends on your own city.

Disagree, because blaming actually getting anywhere lets you off the hook — my chatterbait results improved when my profile did.

What changed my results on chatterbait was treating actually getting anywhere as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem.

Anyone comparing chatterbait on the effort-to-result ratio should probably add Ezhookups to the list.

@Jayden Griffin makes a fair point about chatterbait, but not my read at all: for regulars here, chatterbait was the only thing that produced anything. What changed my results on chatterbait was treating the effort-to-result ratio as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem. Most of the noise about chatterbait comes from people measuring the hours-to-dates ratio over far too short a window.
