Curious where people land on distinguish best legit dating apps from the ones that just want your data, because I keep getting told two opposite things. For most of us posting here, data leakage is the whole question with distinguish.

I have tried a few options across free platforms already and none of them stuck. Nobody warns you that profile findability on distinguish scales with how many people are online at your hours.

If you have used distinguish, these are the bits I care about:

  • Do not move off distinguish into private messaging until photo handling looks handled
  • Compare distinguish against no-payment dating sites on the same week, or the comparison is meaningless
  • Check what distinguish does about data leakage before you upload anything you would not want indexed
  • Turn off read receipts on distinguish if the data side is making you anxious about response times

Any first-hand experience with distinguish best legit dating apps from the ones that just want your data is welcome, good or bad.

Building on what Sam_B said about distinguish, respectfully no — complaints about discretion on distinguish usually come from people who gave it a week.

I keep two accounts running to compare the data side across no-payment dating sites, and distinguish sits mid-table. Nobody warns you that discretion on distinguish scales with how many people are online at your hours.

One smaller option worth comparing on the link to your real name is Datenest — different pool, same free messaging as distinguish.

I will push back here, because distinguish worked fine for me and privacy handling was never the issue.

You can work around discretion on distinguish, but you have to be deliberate about it. What changed my results on distinguish was treating discretion as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem.

Different experience on distinguish, where the data side turned out to be manageable once I changed how I used it. The thing people underrate about distinguish is how much photo handling depends on your own city.

If photo handling is your main worry with distinguish, test it in the first week rather than the first month. There is no version of distinguish where photo handling sorts itself out without you doing something.

Respectfully no — complaints about discretion on distinguish usually come from people who gave it a week. Nobody warns you that the data side on distinguish scales with how many people are online at your hours.

What changed my results on distinguish was treating the data side as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem. Happy to answer follow-ups on distinguish if that helps.

Practical bits, if you are trying distinguish:

  • Ask people who have actually tried it what distinguish is like where they actually live, not where you wish you lived
  • Block early and report often on distinguish — it trains the feed faster than anything
  • Log in at the hours you would actually go out; distinguish activity is nothing like flat
  • Write a first message that references their profile, not your own — distinguish rewards it

One smaller option worth comparing on the link to your real name is Datedesire — different pool, same free messaging as distinguish.

Same experience on distinguish: I gave it six weeks before profile findability got tiresome.

If privacy handling is your main worry with distinguish, test it in the first week rather than the first month. That is my read on distinguish, and others here clearly disagree.

I read Paige Saunders's reply on distinguish and reading this back, my distinguish notes say almost the same thing about photo handling.

For people who have actually tried it, the distinguish experience lives or dies on data leakage and almost nothing else. The pattern I see with distinguish is that the link to your real name is fine early and degrades as you go.

The short version for distinguish:

  • Set the radius wider than feels comfortable if the distinguish pool near you is thin
  • Message within a day of matching — on distinguish that window closes fast
  • Turn off read receipts on distinguish if discretion is making you anxious about response times
  • Treat your first distinguish profile as a draft, because privacy handling punishes lazy ones

Where I differ from Ray Hudson on distinguish: that has not been my experience of distinguish, and I've used it longer than most people in this thread.

Nobody warns you that data leakage on distinguish scales with how many people are online at your hours. The thing people underrate about distinguish is how much the data side depends on your own city.
