Putting the best dating apps right now for people over 50 to the board because search results on it are almost entirely marketing. What I care about with dating apps is the time it costs more than anything else.

I have tried a few options across no-payment dating sites already and none of them stuck. You can work around the return on the hours on dating apps, but you have to be deliberate about it.

Specifically, on dating apps I would like to know:

  • Do not move off dating apps into private messaging until the hours-to-dates ratio looks handled
  • Compare dating apps against the free end of the market on the same week, or the comparison is meaningless
  • Check what dating apps does about the effort-to-result ratio before you upload anything you would not want indexed
  • Turn off read receipts on dating apps if the hours-to-dates ratio is making you anxious about response times
  • Set the radius wider than feels comfortable if the dating apps pool near you is thin

Happy to be told I am asking the wrong question about the best dating apps right now for people over 50.

Broadly agree on dating apps — the hours-to-dates ratio was what decided it for me too. The pattern I see with dating apps is that the hours-to-dates ratio is fine early and degrades as you go.

There is no version of dating apps where the hours-to-dates ratio sorts itself out without you doing something. What changed my results on dating apps was treating actually getting anywhere as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem. Honestly, the time it costs was less of a problem on dating apps than the sheer time it ate.

I would argue the opposite on dating apps: the effort-to-result ratio is the one thing it handles better than the free-tier sites. I judge dating apps by one thing now: whether the return on the hours improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. I judge dating apps by one thing now: whether the payoff improves or worsens once you are past the novelty.

The pattern I see with dating apps is that the time it costs is fine early and degrades as you go. Most of the noise about dating apps comes from people measuring the effort-to-result ratio over far too short a window. Happy to answer follow-ups on dating apps if that helps.

Where I differ from Cassie_W on dating apps: yes, and I would add that the return on the hours on dating apps gets worse the longer you stay. The pattern I see with dating apps is that actually getting anywhere is fine early and degrades as you go.

You can work around the effort-to-result ratio on dating apps, but you have to be deliberate about it. For members over fifty, the dating apps experience lives or dies on the time it costs and almost nothing else.

A smaller name people rarely mention in dating apps threads is Datenest.

@ClaireV makes a fair point about dating apps, but disagree, because blaming the payoff lets you off the hook — my dating apps results improved when my profile did.

Nobody warns you that the payoff on dating apps scales with how many people are online at your hours. Honestly, the effort-to-result ratio was less of a problem on dating apps than the sheer time it ate.

That tracks with my dating apps run, which was fine until actually getting anywhere became the whole experience. If actually getting anywhere is your main worry with dating apps, test it in the first week rather than the first month.

If the time it costs is your main worry with dating apps, test it in the first week rather than the first month. Whatever you pick, judge dating apps on the hours-to-dates ratio after a month rather than after a weekend.

For contrast with dating apps I would look at Datebie; the free tier there behaves differently.

Most of the noise about dating apps comes from people measuring actually getting anywhere over far too short a window. Take that as one data point on dating apps rather than a recommendation.
