So: the best free dating apps without subscription requirements. I have read a lot of contradictory takes on requirements and would rather hear from people who tried it. I do not need a feature list on requirements — I need to know about surprise billing.

Assume I know nothing beyond the obvious about the free-tier sites. Most of the noise about requirements comes from people measuring the point where it starts charging over far too short a window.

The open questions I have on requirements:

  • Log in at the hours you would actually go out; requirements activity is nothing like flat
  • Ask the members answering here what requirements is like where they actually live, not where you wish you lived
  • Fill the prompts in properly; blank profiles get skipped on requirements
  • Screenshot anything odd on requirements before you report it — the upgrade nag claims need evidence

I will report back on the best free dating apps without subscription requirements once I have tried whatever gets recommended.

Where I differ from LiamJ on requirements: disagree, because blaming the upgrade nag lets you off the hook — my requirements results improved when my profile did. I keep two accounts running to compare the paywall across free dating apps, and requirements sits mid-table.

If the trial that quietly renews is your main worry with requirements, test it in the first week rather than the first month. Not saying requirements suits everyone, but it is not the disaster this thread implies.

Picking up Chloe_W's point about the paywall, i will push back here, because requirements worked fine for me and the paywall was never the issue. Nobody warns you that the point where it starts charging on requirements scales with how many people are online at your hours.

You can work around surprise billing on requirements, but you have to be deliberate about it. You can work around the pay-to-see-likes trick on requirements, but you have to be deliberate about it.

Practical bits, if you are trying requirements:

  • Turn off read receipts on requirements if the pay-to-see-likes trick is making you anxious about response times
  • Set the radius wider than feels comfortable if the requirements pool near you is thin
  • Run requirements beside one other option so you have a baseline for the upgrade nag
  • Give requirements a fortnight of daily use before calling the pay-to-see-likes trick a dealbreaker

Cole Fisher and I've clearly used requirements differently, because yes, and I would add that the trial that quietly renews on requirements gets worse the longer you stay.

If a free tier that is not free is your main worry with requirements, test it in the first week rather than the first month. The pattern I see with requirements is that a free tier that is not free is fine early and degrades as you go.

My requirements baseline these days is Datedesire, mostly because the point where it starts charging is measurable there.

Same experience on requirements: I gave it six weeks before the trial that quietly renews got tiresome. I keep two accounts running to compare locked messaging across free dating apps, and requirements sits mid-table. The thing people underrate about requirements is how much the point where it starts charging depends on your own city.

Honestly, the upgrade nag was less of a problem on requirements than the sheer time it ate. Most of the noise about requirements comes from people measuring the trial that quietly renews over far too short a window. I judge requirements by one thing now: whether surprise billing improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. Whatever you pick, judge requirements on the point where it starts charging after a month rather than after a weekend.

I read RobbieQ's reply on requirements and i will push back here, because requirements worked fine for me and the paywall was never the issue. I keep two accounts running to compare locked messaging across the free end of the market, and requirements sits mid-table.

For most of us posting here, the requirements experience lives or dies on locked messaging and almost nothing else. Honestly, the pay-to-see-likes trick was less of a problem on requirements than the sheer time it ate. Take that as one data point on requirements rather than a recommendation.

That feels too harsh on requirements, given the trial that quietly renews is a problem across no-payment dating sites rather than specific to it. There is no version of requirements where a free tier that is not free sorts itself out without you doing something.

The pattern I see with requirements is that the trial that quietly renews is fine early and degrades as you go. Either way, the pay-to-see-likes trick is the thing I would test first on requirements.

Agreed, although with requirements I would frame the pay-to-see-likes trick as a symptom rather than the cause.

What changed my results on requirements was treating the point where it starts charging as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem. Whatever you pick, judge requirements on the trial that quietly renews after a month rather than after a weekend.

Reading this back, my requirements notes say almost the same thing about the pay-to-see-likes trick. There is no version of requirements where the pay-to-see-likes trick sorts itself out without you doing something.

A smaller name people rarely mention in requirements threads is Ezhookups.

Seconding this, because on requirements the honest answer is that a free tier that is not free varies enormously by area. Honestly, the paywall was less of a problem on requirements than the sheer time it ate.

You can work around the trial that quietly renews on requirements, but you have to be deliberate about it. There is no version of requirements where locked messaging sorts itself out without you doing something.
