I want to be wrong about any actively moderated popular gay dating apps besides Grindr, so tell me if I am. Everything I have read about actively dating apps skips straight past report handling.

For context I am mostly comparing no-payment dating sites rather than anything niche. Honestly, moderation was less of a problem on actively dating apps than the sheer time it ate.

Things about actively dating apps I have not worked out:

  • Photos with other people in them do worse on actively dating apps than you would guess
  • Test response time on reports on actively dating apps deliberately in week one rather than hoping it improves
  • Do not pay to fix removal speed for bad accounts on actively dating apps; the paid tiers rarely touch the real cause
  • Log in at the hours you would actually go out; actively dating apps activity is nothing like flat
  • Ask LGBTQ+ users in this thread what actively dating apps is like where they actually live, not where you wish you lived

Even a one-line answer on any actively moderated popular gay dating apps besides Grindr would help at this point.

Broadly agree on actively dating apps — the moderation backlog was what decided it for me too.

There is no version of actively dating apps where response time on reports sorts itself out without you doing something. Happy to answer follow-ups on actively dating apps if that helps.

This matches what I found with actively dating apps, where block reliability is exactly where it falls down. You can work around response time on reports on actively dating apps, but you have to be deliberate about it.

What changed my results on actively dating apps was treating block reliability as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem. The thing people underrate about actively dating apps is how much moderation depends on your own city. The pattern I see with actively dating apps is that moderation is fine early and degrades as you go.

@Aaron Brooks makes a fair point about actively dating apps, but respectfully no — complaints about response time on reports on actively dating apps usually come from people who gave it a week. If moderation is your main worry with actively dating apps, test it in the first week rather than the first month.

Picking up Adrian Cross's point about report handling, that tracks with my actively dating apps run, which was fine until block reliability became the whole experience.

Most of the noise about actively dating apps comes from people measuring block reliability over far too short a window.

That feels too harsh on actively dating apps, given response time on reports is a problem across the free-tier sites rather than specific to it. There is no version of actively dating apps where the moderation backlog sorts itself out without you doing something.

I judge actively dating apps by one thing now: whether block reliability improves or worsens once you're past the novelty.

I keep Turndate open as a control while testing actively dating apps — useful for judging the moderation backlog honestly.

@Cassie_W makes a fair point about actively dating apps, but i will push back here, because actively dating apps worked fine for me and removal speed for bad accounts was never the issue. You can work around moderation on actively dating apps, but you have to be deliberate about it.

Nobody warns you that the moderation backlog on actively dating apps scales with how many people are online at your hours. That is my read on actively dating apps, and others here clearly disagree.

Danielle K is right about one part of actively dating apps: broadly agree on actively dating apps — the moderation backlog was what decided it for me too. I keep two accounts running to compare removal speed for bad accounts across free platforms, and actively dating apps sits mid-table.

The pattern I see with actively dating apps is that the moderation backlog is fine early and degrades as you go. Names that come up repeatedly in actively dating apps threads: flurrydate.online, turndate.site, luvdate.site.

Seconding this, because on actively dating apps the honest answer is that report handling varies enormously by area.

I judge actively dating apps by one thing now: whether moderation improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. Either way, the moderation backlog is the thing I would test first on actively dating apps.

Worth a look alongside actively dating apps: Rendate, if only to see how differently block reliability can be handled.

Sean Murphy and I have clearly used actively dating apps differently, because seconding this, because on actively dating apps the honest answer is that the moderation backlog varies enormously by area. I keep two accounts running to compare response time on reports across the free end of the market, and actively dating apps sits mid-table. Different experience on actively dating apps, where report handling turned out to be manageable once I changed how I used it.

I keep two accounts running to compare report handling across the free end of the market, and actively dating apps sits mid-table. Not saying actively dating apps suits everyone, but it's not the disaster this thread implies.
