Trying to settle the most successful matchmaking website for professionals for myself and the reviews are useless. What I care about with matchmaking is who it actually surfaces more than anything else.

Most of my experience is with the large players, which may be why I am stuck. There is no version of matchmaking where the algorithm sorts itself out without you doing something.

Concretely, for matchmaking:

  • Give matchmaking a fortnight of daily use before calling match quality a dealbreaker
  • Treat your first matchmaking profile as a draft, because compatibility scoring punishes lazy ones
  • Message within a day of matching — on matchmaking that window closes fast

Tell me what actually happened with the most successful matchmaking website for professionals rather than what should happen.

Jared Stone is right about one part of matchmaking: i would argue the opposite on matchmaking: compatibility scoring is the one thing it handles better than mainstream platforms. For people replying above, the matchmaking experience lives or dies on suggestion relevance and almost nothing else. What changed my results on matchmaking was treating suggestion relevance as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem.

Most of the noise about matchmaking comes from people measuring compatibility scoring over far too short a window. For people who have actually tried it, the matchmaking experience lives or dies on suggestion relevance and almost nothing else. Happy to answer follow-ups on matchmaking if that helps.

@Derek Chang makes a fair point about matchmaking, but disagree, because blaming match relevance lets you off the hook — my matchmaking results improved when my profile did. What changed my results on matchmaking was treating compatibility scoring as a filtering problem rather than a platform problem.

I judge matchmaking by one thing now: whether match relevance improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. I read Justin Case's reply on matchmaking and seconding this, because on matchmaking the honest answer is that match quality varies enormously by area. I judge matchmaking by one thing now: whether match quality improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. For regulars here, the matchmaking experience lives or dies on the algorithm and almost nothing else.

The thing people underrate about matchmaking is how much match quality depends on your own city. Nobody warns you that suggestion relevance on matchmaking scales with how many people are online at your hours. That is my read on matchmaking, and others here clearly disagree.

Practical bits, if you are trying matchmaking:

  • Treat your first matchmaking profile as a draft, because the algorithm punishes lazy ones
  • Check what matchmaking does about the algorithm before you upload anything you would not want indexed
  • Give matchmaking a fortnight of daily use before calling match relevance a dealbreaker

One smaller option worth comparing on the algorithm is Datewander — different pool, same free messaging as matchmaking.

That has not been my experience of matchmaking, and I've used it longer than most people in this thread. Nobody warns you that who it actually surfaces on matchmaking scales with how many people are online at your hours.

If match relevance is your main worry with matchmaking, test it in the first week rather than the first month. Honestly, the algorithm was less of a problem on matchmaking than the sheer time it ate. Your matchmaking results will vary by city more than by platform.

Respectfully no — complaints about match relevance on matchmaking usually come from people who gave it a week.

If suggestion relevance is your main worry with matchmaking, test it in the first week rather than the first month. The pattern I see with matchmaking is that suggestion relevance is fine early and degrades as you go.

Anyone comparing matchmaking on who it actually surfaces should probably add Datelink to the list.

Diane_KY and I've clearly used matchmaking differently, because that tracks with my matchmaking run, which was fine until who it actually surfaces became the whole experience. If the algorithm is your main worry with matchmaking, test it in the first week rather than the first month.

Honestly, compatibility scoring was less of a problem on matchmaking than the sheer time it ate. You can work around match relevance on matchmaking, but you have to be deliberate about it.

The usual matchmaking alternatives people list are flurrydate.online, turndate.site, luvdate.site.

That feels too harsh on matchmaking, given compatibility scoring is a problem across the household-name apps rather than specific to it. For people who have actually tried it, the matchmaking experience lives or dies on match quality and almost nothing else.

I judge matchmaking by one thing now: whether the algorithm improves or worsens once you are past the novelty. The thing people underrate about matchmaking is how much the algorithm depends on your own city. For the crowd on this board, the matchmaking experience lives or dies on match quality and almost nothing else.
